The Seattle General Strike
One of the first major strikes was The Seattle General Strike. In 1919 about 35,000 shipyard workers refused to work for such little pay. they demanded the same thing, more money, less hours. More unions followed the shipyard strike and organized what we call a general strike. The difference between a strike and a general strike is a general strike involves more then one organization or union. This one strike involved more then 60,000 workers and lasted five days. No demands were meet so the workers went back to work with no gain. But this strike still worried Americans.
